Nomads & CommunitiesBackground
Since 31 August 2026 Thailand's embassy in London has accepted permanent residency in any of the territories, alongside UK or Irish residency, as grounds for a Destination Thailand Visa application; applicants also need a police clearance certificate under six months old. The check moves screening to the application stage instead of leaving it to border officers.
Schedule 6 of the British Nationality Act 1981 lists 14 territories under the heading, among them Anguilla, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Gibraltar, the Falkland Islands, Pitcairn and the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia. They sit under UK sovereignty but are not part of the UK.
For long-stay travellers the grouping works as one residence zone. A permanent resident of Gibraltar or Bermuda applies for the Thai Visa through London alongside UK and Irish residents, at a time when Thailand has also capped Visa-exempt land entries at two a calendar year.
