German federal police buy anti-drone kit
Drones: Industry & DefenceBackground
The Beschaffungsamt des BMI is the procurement office of Germany's Federal Ministry of the Interior and the largest civilian buying agency of the federal government. From its head office in Bonn and a second site in Erfurt, it buys goods and services centrally for federal authorities.
Its September 2026 counter-drone purchase shows that central role at work. The office bought for the federal police, which guards borders, railways and the largest airports, and chose an Austrian and a British supplier by negotiated procedure. Neither Tenders Electronic Daily notice, 622940-2026 or 623227-2026, published a value.
The kit it chose is portable police equipment for sites such as airport perimeters and railway yards, a different class of purchase from the heavy, integrated air defence that German primes such as Rheinmetall offer the military.
