Drones: Industry & DefenceBackground
The Federal Ministry of the Interior, the Bundesministerium des Innern, is responsible for Germany's internal security, with Alexander Dobrindt as minister. Its agencies include the Bundespolizei, the Federal Criminal Police Office and the Federal Office for Information Security.
The federal police it oversees guards Germany's borders, its railways and its largest airports, where a single drone sighting can stop flights. That puts drones over German sites inside the ministry's remit as well as the military's.
In 2026 the ministry answered with lighter police kit from two foreign firms, one Austrian and one British, rather than a German supplier. With the Bundeswehr pursuing military systems separately, Germany risks ending up with police and military counter-drone networks that cannot see each other's tracks.
