The American Academy of Pediatrics is the main US professional association of paediatricians, representing the specialists most directly involved in childhood vaccination and outbreak response.
The Academy reads the 2026 case data as structural rather than seasonal: 93% of this year's confirmed measles cases involved patients who were unvaccinated or of unknown vaccination status, and 69% were under 19.
