Background
The 75th Ranger Regiment is the US Army's premier light infantry special operations force, trained for direct action raids, airfield seizure, and special reconnaissance. The regiment has three active-duty battalions and a special troops battalion headquartered at Fort Moore, Georgia. In April 2026 the 42nd Annual Best Ranger Competition (10-12 April) became the first time live FPV drones were integrated into the competition, with the 75th Rangers selecting Powerus Matrix-T FPV drones as the training platforms.
The Rangers' adoption of commercial FPV technology for elite infantry training reflects the broader shift in US special operations doctrine: mastering drone piloting at squad level has become a core competency alongside marksmanship and close-quarters combat. The Best Ranger Competition is the most prestigious evaluation of Ranger-qualified soldiers in the Army.
