A Secretary of State saying from the despatch box that she inherited them is the first public answer to that question, and it came from a department whose remit is culture and media rather than Science.

What the exchange did not produce was any of the substance the committee asked for. An offer to meet is not an assessment, and the answer contains no number, no timetable and no named programme. Onwurah got an owner for the policy in the same week she failed to get an owner for the paperwork.
