On 22 September 2026 Varma said it had put more than EUR 50m into Verda, the Helsinki AI cloud company that traded until January 2026 as DataCrunch, as part of the company's $189m Series B. Varma said it remains a significant owner of Verda after the round.
A pension insurer taking a direct stake of that size in a domestic compute provider is a route to financing data centre capacity that does not depend on either state subsidy or foreign venture money.
