Released on 22 September, the Sustainable Data Centre Action Plan sets conditions for future data-centre projects in Victoria, Australia. New sites must provide renewable generation and storage to match their demand, meet their own connection and network costs, and avoid drinking water for cooling.
Victoria frames the plan around making new data centres supply rather than ADD to local power demand. Where an alternative water source is unavailable, the policy requires operators to offset water use and fund upgrades.
Future projects must also observe siting rules and provide local investment commitments. Existing approved projects and eight applications already before the minister are exempt, leaving the plan to govern later development.
