Servicio de Evaluacion Ambiental runs Chile’s environmental assessment system, SEIA. It assesses Environmental Impact Declarations and Environmental Impact Studies submitted by developers under Ley 19.300.
Its rulings determine whether a proposed project receives full environmental review and public participation, or a simpler ruling letter. In data-centre filings, declared diesel storage for backup generation can decide which route applies.
That procedural role gives the service lasting importance as Chile weighs infrastructure growth against environmental oversight. Developers’ stated fuel volumes shape the evidence SEA considers when deciding whether a project needs a full study.
