What does Quantum Systems make?
Background
Quantum Systems, a Munich-area maker of vertical takeoff reconnaissance drones, was reported on 2 July 2026 to have closed a $1.2bn Series D round at a valuation of roughly $8bn. The company has not issued its own primary release confirming the exact figures, so the numbers should be read as reported rather than officially verified.
Founded in 2015 and based in Gilching near Munich, Quantum Systems builds the Vector and Trinity families of vertical takeoff and landing surveillance drones. Its systems have been used extensively by Ukraine, with reports crediting them with more than 19,000 missions flown in 2025 alone. Press coverage describes the firm as already profitable, with around 1,600 staff and a 2026 revenue target near EUR 700 million, roughly double the prior year.
If the reported figures hold, the round would rank among the largest private defence technology financings in European history, and would roughly double the company's valuation from about $3.5bn in late 2025. It sits inside a wider week of European autonomy financing news alongside AeroVironment's own fundraising, pointing to sustained investor appetite for drone and counter-drone manufacturers as militaries scale low-cost procurement.
