US Midterms 2026Background
The Missouri Association of County Clerks and Election Authorities represents the officials WHO run elections in each of Missouri's 116 local election jurisdictions. Its members are the clerks and boards WHO print ballots, mail them and count them, so its filings carry the practical cost of any late change to the rules.
In the 2026 redistricting fight it filed an amicus brief, with Boone County Clerk Brianna Lennon, telling the 8th Circuit that redrawing district lines so late would bring heavy costs and practical burdens and could endanger federal deadlines for military and overseas ballots, ABC17 News reported. It priced ballot reprinting at several hundred dollars in small counties and $15,000 to $30,000 in larger ones.
the Supreme Court's 25 September order staying the switch to the 2025 map drew on that brief. Overseas and military ballots on the 2022 lines had been in the POST since 18 September, and the order let them stand without reissue.
