US Midterms 2026: Texas PAC's Senate spending hits $131.5mBackground
Lone Star Rising PAC is a Super PAC set up to oppose Republican Ken Paxton in the 2026 Texas Senate race, where Democrat James Talarico is his opponent. It is the largest outside spender on the Democratic side of that contest.
It registered with the Federal Election Commission on 2 September 2025 as committee C00918268 and files quarterly. As a Super PAC it may raise unlimited sums but cannot coordinate with any candidate. By 30 June 2026 it had raised $21.69m, $16.57m of it from individuals and $5.13m from other committees, and had spent $8.55m on independent expenditures.
Its scale is the clearest measure of how one-sided outside money in Texas has become. Its late-September spending was a small fraction of what Republican-side groups filed in the same week, and a smaller fraction still of TEXAS PAC's total.
Lone Star Rising is heavily outspent
Lone Star Rising PAC filed $7.21m of independent expenditures against Republican Ken Paxton in The Week to 30 September 2026, the largest Democratic-side total in the Texas Senate race. Across the same window Republican-side groups filed about $71.4m, against about $9.6m for Democrat James Talarico's side.
The gap matters for a committee built to fight Paxton. TEXAS PAC added $61.4m in a single 30 September notice, and MAGA Inc filed $5m of streaming adverts against Talarico on 26 September. Lone Star Rising's own reports show where its money comes from, mostly individuals; TEXAS PAC's donors stay hidden until its first full report on 15 October.
