Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council

Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council has provided upper-tier and district services across Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Batley and surrounding West Yorkshire communities since 1974. The borough had about 433,200 residents at the 2021 census. Following new boundaries introduced in May 2026, its 69 councillors represent 23 three-member wards.

The May 2026 all-out election made Reform UK the largest group. Open Council Data records a Reform minority administration, with 26 Reform councillors and no group holding the 35 seats needed for a majority. Almondbury elected three Reform councillors at that election.

The August 2026 Almondbury by-election then gave the Liberal Democrats one of the ward's seats. The gain reduced Reform's Almondbury representation without changing the council's minority-control position.
