Johan Manzambi

Johan Manzambi emerged as one of the tournament's breakout stories on 18 June 2026, coming off the bench to score twice as Switzerland beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 4-1 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles . At 20 years old, Manzambi is the youngest player in Switzerland's World Cup squad by more than two years, and his brace against Bosnia announced him to a global audience.

Born in Geneva to Angolan and Congolese parents, Manzambi plays for SC Freiburg in Germany's Bundesliga. He made his Freiburg first-team debut aged 17 and in his most recent Bundesliga season made 43 starts, contributing seven goals and six assists as the club reached the Europa League final. He was named the Europa League Young Player of the Season.

His two-goal substitute performance secured Switzerland's place in the World Cup knockout stages alongside Canada at the top of Group B, and confirmed a rare generational depth for the Swiss national side.
