Background
Houston Stadium is FIFA's neutral tournament name for NRG Stadium, the retractable-roof arena in Houston, Texas that is normally home to the NFL's Houston Texans. Corporate-sponsor names are stripped for the World Cup, so the venue reverts to its sponsor tag, Reliant Stadium, once the tournament ends.
Opened on 24 August 2002 at a cost of $352 million, it was the first NFL stadium built with a retractable roof, two panels that split at the 50-yard line and close over each end zone in as little as seven minutes. Normal capacity is 72,220, reduced to 68,777 for World Cup configuration.
Houston Stadium hosted Morocco's 3-0 win over co-host Canada in the round of 16 on Saturday 4 July 2026, eliminating Canada from its own tournament and fixing the first confirmed quarter-final, against France in Boston . The venue is staging seven matches in total: five group games, a Round of 32 tie and this round of 16 fixture.
