Gessime Yassine

Yassine Gessime came off the bench and sealed Morocco's 4-2 win over Haiti on 24 June 2026 with the fourth goal in the 71st minute, his first goal in senior international football. At just 20 years old, Gessime made his World Cup debut as a substitute and delivered when Morocco needed a cushion to confirm their progress from Group c.

Born on 22 November 2005 in Salon-de-Provence, France, Gessime represents Morocco despite being French-Born, following the same dual-nationality pathway as many of the Atlas Lions' squad. He came through clubs in southern France, including Istres and Marignane GCB, before signing for Ligue 2 side USL Dunkerque in January 2024. He rose quickly: in January 2026 he signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Ligue 1 club RC Strasbourg, with Transfermarkt valuing him at around 12 million euros. He also helped Morocco win the U20 World Cup, contributing two goals and three assists in the tournament.

Gessime's appearance against Haiti placed him among the youngest Moroccans to score at a senior World Cup. His trajectory from Ligue 2 obscurity to a World Cup goal in under three years is one of the tournament's more striking individual stories, and he arrives in Ligue 1 with the 2026 World Cup already on his CV.
