The German Navy, the Deutsche Marine, is the naval service of the Bundeswehr, Germany's armed forces. It answers to the Federal Ministry of Defence alongside the Army and air force.
At the REPMUS26 uncrewed-systems exercise in Portugal, Rheinmetall AG, the German parent company rather than its American Arm, ran a containerised, relocatable command centre for the navy. The POST controlled underwater sensors and uncrewed systems from several makers through a single interface, built for port and critical-infrastructure protection. Sources describe a demonstration to the navy, not an order.
The demonstration shows where the German Navy's uncrewed interest sits: guarding harbours and seabed infrastructure with mixed fleets of robots under one controller. The Spanish Navy took a different route at the same exercise, launching a loitering munition from an uncrewed boat.
