Background
Frankenberg Technologies is one of three UK small and medium sized firms named on 13 July 2026 as first recipients of funding under LCADE, the UK's national slice of the five nation LEAP low-cost interceptor programme. The firm's specific interceptor design has not been made public in detail, so this record stays factual and modest until more is disclosed.
LCADE, short for Low-Cost Air Defence Effectors, is delivered by the UK Ministry of Defence's National Armaments Director Group and shares a combined GBP 3.16 million across Frankenberg Technologies, Greenjets and Cambridge Aerospace. Each awardee is developing and trialling a low-cost interceptor intended to counter drones and other airborne threats, with demonstrations expected later in 2026. All three have committed to building manufacturing capability inside the UK.
The award makes the UK the first of the five LEAP partner nations (alongside France, Germany, Italy and Poland) to place contracts under the programme, a marker of Britain's push to move quickly on affordable counter-drone capability as the wider European interceptor market takes shape.
