US Midterms 2026: Florida Rising loses an exact-match caseBackground
Florida Rising Together is a Florida progressive group that organises voters and campaigns on economic and racial justice. It describes itself as a people-powered membership organisation building multi-racial movements to win elections and change laws. Its campaigns include ending mass incarceration, defending immigrants and repealing laws that strip the vote from people with felony convictions.
In federal court it is challenging Florida's exact-match rule, under which a registration application is valid only once the licence, state ID or partial Social Security number on it matches a government database. On 29 September 2026 the Middle District of Florida dismissed the suit against Secretary of State Cord Byrd without reaching the merits, finding the group had not shown standing.
The group may file an amended complaint by 15 October. Until a court rules otherwise, the rule governs registrations for Florida's 3 November election.
