US Midterms 2026Background
Allred's switch from the Senate contest to a House seat left the 2026 Texas Senate race to others, and the money there now runs heavily against the Democrat. By 30 September 2026 TEXAS PAC had reported $131.5m of spending in that race, and Republican-side groups had filed about $71.4m since 24 September against $9.6m for James Talarico's side. In his own 2024 Senate run against Ted Cruz, Allred outraised Cruz in every quarter of that year and still lost by about 8.5 points, 53.1% to 44.6%.
Allred represented Texas's 32nd district from 2019 to 2025, having unseated Republican Pete Sessions in 2018. Before politics he played linebacker for the Tennessee Titans and worked as a civil rights lawyer, and he served at the Department of Housing and Urban Development under President Obama.
