Cloudera sells a data and AI platform for enterprises, built from the Hadoop-era big-data ecosystem. It is headquartered in Santa Clara, California, and has been privately held since October 2021, when private equity firms KKR and Clayton, Dubilier & Rice completed a $5.3bn buyout and took it off the New York Stock Exchange.
Cloudera was founded in 2008 and merged with rival Hortonworks in a $5.2bn combination completed on 3 January 2019, consolidating the two largest Hadoop-era vendors into one company ahead of its later move into cloud and AI data platforms.
Cloudera runs Mistral models on-site
Cloudera and Mistral announced a partnership on 10 September 2026 that runs Mistral's AI models directly on the enterprise data Cloudera's corporate customers already hold on their own servers . The companies framed the deal around sovereign intelligence over enterprise data, though Cloudera itself has been US-owned since KKR and Clayton, Dubilier and Rice took it private in a $5.3bn buyout in October 2021.
