Womey is a town and sub-prefecture in Nzérékoré Prefecture, in Guinea's south-eastern Forest Region. The sub-prefecture had 13,196 people at the 2014 census.
In September 2014, during the West African Ebola epidemic, villagers in Womey killed eight members of a TEAM of health workers, local officials and journalists WHO had come to explain the disease. Searchers found the eight bodies in a latrine pit, and Guinean authorities arrested six people. Resistance to the response in parts of Guinea persisted well into 2015.
In 2026, between 26 July and 1 September, five health facilities burned in Butembo, DR Congo, amid rumours about the Ebola response.
