Tomislav Coric is Croatia's Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister. On 27 July 2026 he finalised the flat-rate pausalni per-bed tourist-rental tax rise: EUR 150 per bed a year in category 1 municipalities and EUR 100 in category 2, up from EUR 100 and EUR 70 respectively, due to apply from 1 January 2027 once public consultation closes.
The rate is a substantial retreat from a Ministry of Finance proposal in May 2026 that had reached as high as EUR 1,400 a bed for small operators; landlord associations credit their negotiation with the reduction and now call the final figure proportionate. Operators earning up to EUR 40,000 a year stay exempt, and the government expects roughly EUR 60 million in extra revenue even after the softening, revenue it treats as needed to offset infrastructure strain from tourist accommodation.
