Tim Howard

Tim Howard is a retired American goalkeeper who set a World Cup record on 1 July 2014 when he made a remarkable number of saves for the USA against Belgium in the round of 16 in Sao Paulo, a performance that became one of the most celebrated individual goalkeeping displays in tournament history. That record was surpassed by Eloy Room of Curacao, who made 15 saves against Ecuador on 20 June 2026 in Kansas City.

Howard spent the majority of his career in England with Everton, where he became one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League during a long and consistent stint. He also played for Manchester United earlier in his career, winning the FA Cup, and returned to MLS with the Colorado Rapids towards the end of his playing days. He retired from international football after the 2016 Copa America and from club football subsequently.

Howard's 2014 performance made him a national figure in the United States and a symbol of the goalkeeper position's growing prominence.
