Nomads & CommunitiesBackground
South Jakarta (Jakarta Selatan) is one of five administrative cities within the Jakarta province and has no elected council of its own. Its ten districts are Jagakarsa, Pasar Minggu, Cilandak, Pesanggrahan, Kebayoran Lama, Kebayoran Baru, Mampang Prapatan, Pancoran, Tebet and Setiabudi. Kebayoran Baru is its administrative centre, and Setiabudi holds the Sudirman Central Business District.
The South Jakarta District Court hears pre-trial challenges to investigators' actions. On 29 September 2026 single judge Yuliana rejected in full former deputy immigration minister Silmy Karim's challenge to the KPK's searches and seizures in a residence-permit extortion case, and the KPK passed the file to prosecutors the next day.
The case matters to foreign residents because the KPK alleges 145.5bn rupiah was extracted from residence-permit applicants. That remains an allegation against eight suspects; the ruling confirmed only that the searches and seizures were lawful.
