Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (SEF) was Portugal's national immigration and border police service until its dissolution on 1 October 2023, part of a wider reorganisation of the country's migration architecture. Its migration and asylum functions, along with a substantial unresolved caseload, were transferred to a new civilian body, Agência para a Integração, Migrações e Asilo (AIMA), while border and criminal-investigation duties moved to other security services.

SEF's most consequential legacy is administrative rather than operational: AIMA absorbed between 40,000 and 60,000 unresolved residency cases from the dissolved service, a backlog that has continued to shape Portugal's immigration bureaucracy years after SEF itself ceased to exist.
