For May 2026, North Hertfordshire was selected alongside Cambridge and Tunbridge Wells to pilot flexible polling station rules, allowing residents to vote at any station in the district. The mix of market towns and rural villages — with dispersed polling locations — made it a practical test of whether flexibility reduces barriers to voting in lower-density areas.
