Background
MPTS (Media Production and Technology Show) is the UK's leading annual conference and exhibition for the broadcast, production, and content-creation industries. Held at the Grand Hall, Olympia London, the show brings together technology vendors, broadcasters, and creatives for two days of exhibitions and seminars. The 2026 edition ran on 13-14 May 2026, marking the event's 10th anniversary and its biggest edition to date, with more than 300 exhibitors and an attendance of 13,000+ industry professionals. The SMART STORIES consortium used the conference to make its first full architectural reveal, with the EVS whiteboard presentation on 14 May 2026 laying out the three-region SOM runtime .
MPTS 2026 introduced several new features including a Creator Hub, the London debut of Post Production World Europe, an expanded SMPTE Media Technology Conference Europe, and new networking spaces. The show is free to attend for industry professionals, making it a broad-reach venue for consortium announcements. The SMART STORIES session at MPTS 2026 was part of the show's expanded AI and emerging technology programme, and the EVS whiteboard slides photographed at the session have since become the primary public documentation of the SOM architecture as of May 2026 .
