Four Councils Run UK's First Flexible Voting Experiments
UK Local Elections 2026Background
Milton Keynes was selected as one of several pilots for England's flexible voting reforms, hosting the UK's first central voting hub at Midsummer Place shopping centre on 1 May 2026. The hub model consolidates multiple polling stations into a single accessible venue open throughout the day.
As a large unitary authority with dispersed settlements and new housing estates, Milton Keynes was seen as a practical test bed for the hub concept. Results from the pilot will inform whether central hubs are rolled out nationally at future elections.
