Green Data

Green Data is a data-centre developer in talks with Spaceport America over a solar-powered campus on state land near Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. No lease or development agreement has been signed, and the proposal remains under review by the State Land Office, but it has already provoked local backlash: Sierra County passed an 18-month moratorium on 21 July, the third New Mexico county after Santa Fe and Socorro to act against data-centre development.

Green Data previously pitched a roughly 10,000-acre solar farm and data centre between Socorro and Magdalena in partnership with New Mexico Tech, a proposal the university declined to pursue after citing land requirements and community concerns. The Spaceport America site is a fresh iteration of the same solar-powered pitch, this time on state trust land rather than university-linked land.

The company's proposals sit alongside Project Jupiter as the two flashpoints driving New Mexico's emerging data-centre backlash; state lawmakers have pledged to bring a statewide moratorium bill in the 2027 legislative session partly in response to the Green Data pattern of repeated, contested siting attempts.
