Nomads & Communities: Mexico proposes 36% rise in visitor feeBackground
The Gaceta Parlamentaria is the official publication of Mexico's Chamber of Deputies. It prints the initiatives, committee opinions and agendas that come before the lower house, so a bill's appearance there marks the point at which its text becomes a public parliamentary record.
Issue No. 7121 carried the government's proposed changes to the federal fee law, the Ley Federal de Derechos, for budget year 2027, received on 8 September 2026. The printed text sets the non-resident tourist fee at 1,334.80 pesos and both long-stay and ordinary visitor visas at 1,639.80 pesos.
For anyone tracking Mexican Visa and fee changes, the Gaceta is the first-party source for what deputies are being asked to approve. Committees aimed to clear the 2027 revenue bills by 15 October.
Gazette prints a steeper tourist fee
Issue No. 7121 of the Gaceta Parlamentaria put the federal government's 2027 fee proposals on the parliamentary record on 8 September 2026. The printed Reform of the Ley Federal de Derechos lifts the charge on each arriving tourist from 983 to 1,334.80 pesos, a rise of about 36%, and assigns 26% of the takings to the immigration agency.
Publication in the gazette opens the process rather than closing it. Deputies set 15 October 2026 as their target for voting on the 2027 revenue bills, and any committee opinion that amends the fee will itself be printed in a later issue before the floor vote. Until then, issue No. 7121 is the authoritative text for anyone pricing a trip to Mexico next year.
