Background
CA-1 Europa is Helsing's autonomous uncrewed combat aircraft, built in partnership with its subsidiary Grob Aircraft, targeting a maiden flight in early 2027. It sits in the three to five tonne class, roughly 11 metres long with a 10 metre wingspan, and is designed to fly independently, as part of a swarm, or as a loyal wingman alongside crewed fighters.
The aircraft combines Helsing's Centaur AI software and mission stack with Grob's established airframe design and manufacturing capability, engineered for fully autonomous operation in contested and denied airspace. The original design, since redesignated CA-1KA for kinetic attack, has been joined by a dedicated electronic warfare variant, CA-1EA, aimed at supporting penetration of defended airspace.
Entry into operational service is targeted for around 2029. As a European-built uncrewed combat aircraft from one of the continent's best-funded defence technology firms, CA-1 Europa is a marker of how quickly autonomous strike aviation is moving from concept to flight test, alongside comparable jet-drone programmes such as Kratos' Firejet family.
