Cybersecurity: Threats and Defences: Boston Scientific likely to miss guidanceBackground
Boston Scientific is a US maker of medical devices with principal offices at 300 Boston Scientific Way in Marlborough, Massachusetts. It is incorporated in Delaware and its shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol BSX.
On 8 September 2026 the company filed under Item 1.05 of Form 8-K, the section reserved for material cyber incidents. It said an incident identified on 25 August caused a network outage that hit manufacturing and the processing and shipping of customer orders worldwide. It expects a material impact on third-quarter and full-year 2026 results and is unlikely to meet the net sales growth and adjusted earnings-per-share guidance given on 29 July.
The filing said major distribution centres were shipping at or above normal levels, sterilisation facilities were operational and manufacturing had resumed at most sites. It named no attacker and no ransom demand. The company said it would update its outlook at its third-quarter results call on 28 October 2026. Stryker, another device maker, declared a March 2026 incident material in April but kept its full-year guidance.
